About Blueprint

Blueprint is a student-run organization that creates technological solutions for nonprofit organizations. Blueprint partners with local nonprofits, working together to provide technology services such as website and mobile application development, and data analytics to augment them — free of charge.

About Focus on Nature

Focus on Nature (client of UW Blueprint) is a non-profit organization founded to inspire young people to connect with nature through photography. Since its inception, FON has hosted over 773 workshops and camps reaching over 20,000 children from grades 3 - 11.

My work

Focus on Nature’s existing camp registration workflow was tedious and inefficient, requiring manual verification of Interac e-transfer payments and constant monitoring for cancellations and last-minute openings. To streamline this process, I designed a scalable camp management platform that automates registration, waitlisting, and cancellations.

Continuos communication with clients

Throughout the project, we regularly met with our clients to share progress updates. However, differences in their expectations and our design approach sometimes led to misalignment, requiring us to rethink and refine several interactions. In hindsight, involving our clients earlier during our initial explorations would have resulted in better alignment, reducing the need for later redesigns and streamlining our workflow.

Working in close partnership with other designers

UW Blueprint was my first experience collaborating closely with another designer. I led the registrant experience, while Rebecca (shoutout!) focused on the management side. Through countless jam sessions, discussions, and creative riffing, I gained invaluable insights and grew significantly as a designer.
